didn't realize the time, so slightly missed a day of blogging.... by about half an hour, whoops. Today I have to admit, I didn't really get up to too much, I got woken up by my flatmate over the Solar eclipse, I managed to get a few photos of the event: The moon looks a little like a banana.... Just saying. I also went out today and got a padding pool. Yes, a paddling pool. I'm hoping to continue on with experimenting with my underwater photography, I had meant to do some today. But I think I am starting to get sick :(
So here's hoping I will get to experiment a little more tomorrow. Just not sure if I will be putting this bad boy in my kitchen or the bathroom. Either way, lets hope the flat mates don't walk in and fear for my life. Hoping to also get a bit more deck of cards done, even get another deck entirely started. As I am beginning to get a little bored of the ones I am currently doing. They are too traditional, so who knows, i might go back and make them all rock starts or something for fun. That's it anyways for me tonight/morning. Will update in roughly 20hrs time

Today, I did a lot of logo work, I experimented a lot within illustrator, I now feel I am on the right track of having a final logo design. As you can see, these designs are totally different compared to the ones I have previously put up. I am still not too sure about shapes in certain places in all three of the designs above. I also started to play around with fonts a little: As you can see I chose the 3rd design to experiment with, simply due to I thought it was the strongest of the designs. There is still a lot more work to do, but I believe I'm on the right track.
I didn't get talking to a tutor today, which sucked. However I did a bit more research into my main project, I managed to find that other universities, do have a student advise guide, from past students. So I have been reading over their questions and what some of their students were concerned about. Mainly to get a better idea on what questions to ask students, and what other students would be interested in hearing. I have so far found that students want to know:
This gives me a better idea of questions to ask, although these are important questions to ask on advise, I know I want to add in some humor, like:
Just a quick post today. I finally went out with my camera and took a few images underwater! They aren't amazing, just images taken within rock pools: These are in preparation for a ViewBug underwater portrait challenge . I have to apologize because there are so few... my hand was sooooo cold I thought I was going to get frost bite :( frozen hand! aaaahhhhh! but yea, i am really surprised with the outcome of these and I actually cant wait to do more! I will be rook pool hunting for crabs and such now, it look like it....... this is definitely going to be a challenge and a half.
So today I was rushing around like a headless chicken, although I did get a lot done, just not uni work wise.... although I did get a few sketches for my logo done, I am hoping to get them drawn up in illustrator tomorrow. So here is just a few wee sketches I did today. The first image I prefer a lot more than the others, however this could change once going into illustrator. Below are the other logos I have already made. They are the same logo, just different variations of it. Today I also re-designed a local business's website. I had actually re-designed it during the summer (summer 2014). But he finally sent it off to actually get done..... whoop!
So I will show you images once the website is fully up and running. That's it from me today. Hopefully will have more things to show tomorrow So today I decided to go back to my logo project. I have been going through so many images of octopuses. Looking at species, and just general shapes of them. I defiantly preferred the images of them just swimming. So I decided I have done sooooo much research, I'm going to jump into the deep end, so the above are the same image with slight differences. This is just my first trail sort of run for my logo. The back ground is also not permanent. I just needed to see clearer on what I was doing. I do like this logo so far, but I'm still not too sure. Also on a side note here is my final dissertation out put: First image is the front of the dissertation, Second image is the inside, along with the dissertation, and the third is the bum. I plan to hand this in on Friday which it is due to be in for anyways. I had planned to hand it in today or tomorrow, but due to laziness and being preoccupied with logo designs, and fixing up my other sketchbooks. I didn't get to hand it in today. I also have people coming from home tomorrow to Aberdeen, for a wee visit. So I don't think I will be able to hand it in tomorrow. Which also brings me to my final point, I may not be able to blog tomorrow. Due to this visit and the fact my crappy little phone won't allow me to blog, which sucks. So there will be either no blog tomorrow or a the very least a late one. Back to business, Here are a few of the octopus images I was looking at today I love the bottom middle image, the amount of detail within the image is truly stunning. My logo is still not as perfect as I would like it, however this is just the very early stages. Hopefully on Friday I will have more to show on the Logo and Deck of card front.
So, today I finally got started on my book cover. YAY! I am actually rather proud of it. I am just not too sure in which direction it is heading. But not half bad if I do say so myself. This is more of less just a first draft of one of my designs, I have a few more I'd like to experiment with and see how they go too.
On a separate note, I had previously mentioned about the survey I have created, to go towards my dissertation. If you haven't already, I'd really appreciate it if you took just one minute of your time to fill in. I also promise you it won't take you anymore than a minute to answer. It is just simply ticking boxes https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CFZ7G9T Thank you So, I have been doing a fair wee bit the past 4 days. I have now returned back to Uni for my final semester, then back home to face the big scary world. At the moment I have been mainly trying to catch up on uni work, which I have definitely been lacking in over the Christmas period. As well as getting settled back into my flat. So, for the house of illustration book competition. I have been working my ass off. I now have three of the four pieces that I am to submit started, one of them is done. I am quiet proud of it if I'm honest. However, the second piece I have been working on. I have kept running into difficulties. With the image looking a bit too cartoon like, more than I would like. I have just started on the third image, in hope that time away from the second piece I will be able to go back with a clearer mind and fix it. These are little snips from each of the three images. The first image on the left is the image I am having the most problems with. The middle image is, in my eyes finished. The third Image I have literally just started. These three images are also in order of the stories. The Treasure Of Abbot Thomas, The Upper Berth, and finally A Tale Of An Empty House.
I have also been looking around the ViewBug website and have noticed a "Challenge" tab. The challenge tab is more what I have been looking for within ViewBug. It is very much as literal as it sounds. Other photographers, giving challenges. I have decided to do the challenges than the competitions. As I feel this will improve my photography skills and I feel I will learn a lot faster. I am also meeting up with my tutor tomorrow, pretty certain I will be getting my ass handed to me. My first two weeks or so with being back at uni I know will be hectic. But I believe that I will be if not fully up to date I will at least be a hell of a lot more organized. Will let you know how tomorrow goes.... eek! Hello!
Firstly Happy New Year! hope everyone had a good night last night, and your heads aren't pounding too badly today. This is my first blog on my new website. As you can probably already tell, the website it's self is still being set up and I am slowly but surely putting up my work as well as some new work. To explain my new name Craicin Designs. I wanted to be known as a "Norn Iron" artist. So Craicin, being Northern Irish slang for "cracking". It's more of a play on words. I am hoping this will be a new beginning for my art as well as myself. I am currently in my last year of university, Soon I will have to be an adult and get a big girl job. I have had a few problems with getting started and really trying to find myself in what I want to do within art. One of my problems have been, trying to learn too much and do too much. This being a problem as I haven't really been able to specialize in anything. So I have taken a big step and decided to keep things simple and keep to my photography and illustration. I am aware I have spoken about this before on my previous blog. So I am up for doing more photoshoots, working with new people within the industry and if anyone wants to work with me, on either. As a model, make-up artist, hair stylist, fellow designer. Or simply wants to give me a job. Awesome! I will be a very busy bee the next few days as I have 3 different deadlines for 6 different pieces of work. To be handed in before the end of the month. This includes 4 book cover competitions and 2 images for ViewBug competition. I shall leave you with one of my favorite images I took nearing the end of 2014. I know Christmas is over, but I don't care :) Again guys Happy New Year! |
